When The Fate of the Furious (F8) came out in 2017, a rumour rose from the Fast and Furious team that the franchise might be going to space. People genuinely were amused and confused because they were not sure if that was a joke. It's not as if the Fast and Furious franchise has not gone to extreme lengths before. We've seen cars being driven out of planes, jumping from skyscrapers, zooming across thick sheets of ice and more.
Finally, F9 director Justin Lin confirmed the rumours himself. He further stated, 'I think through the years, part of the fun is to come up with crazy ideas to challenge ourselves. But I have to say, we never do it for the sake of shock value.'
Even if it wasn't for shock value, it did leave everyone astounded. Even Lead Star Vin Diesel admitted that when he heard about the idea from the director, his jaw was on the ground.
F9's latest trailer gives us a sneak peek on the space journey when one of the sequences show Tyrese Gibson's Roman Pearce and Ludacris' Tej Parker in space suits operating their car converted rocket ship.
Justin Lin did extensive research to make this happen. As Vin Diesel put it – ‘it was a "crazy contribution" from Justin Lin.’ The Fast and Furious franchise never fails to aim sky high. This time they did so quite literally!
